Happy Easter from The Malthouse

A very Happy Easter from everyone at The Malthouse B&B.

Spring is in full flow now here in Alton.  There is plenty of blossom on trees, plants are starting to bloom and lots of lambs can be seen skipping around in the fields.  Life is beautiful!

Hope you have some time off over the holiday weekend to relax and spend time with your family and friends.  Whatever you're doing take care!

Poppy the Wonderpup!

A quick progress report on our puppy Poppy.

First of all here she is looking totally cute after a recent haircut.  You will notice that she's not at all interested in looking at the camera.  She's far too busy sniffing the ground!  Well she is a dog!

Poppy is still attending dog training most Monday evenings and has now moved from the Puppy Class and moved into the Intermediate Class.  She really enjoys the training sessions (as do we!) and does well most weeks. This bronze award was presented to her so she must be doing OK!

Poppy will be one on 1st May2014, so we'd better start stocking up on birthday treats for her.

Where Does the Time Go?

We just realised that it's weeks since our last blog!  SORRY!!!

What can we say.  We've just been up to our ears with one thing and another and then some!

Anyway enough excuses.  We've decided to try a new approach.  From now on we shall blog little and often and see if that works!

So for a start how is the weather with you?  The weather here in Alton has been just fabulous for the last few days and just keeps getting better.  Today has been sunny and warm with hardly a cloud in the sky.  We're hoping it continues for a long time to come.  Today guests staying at our b&b have been basking in the sun enjoying a cup of tea!

Here are the last rays of today's glorious sun.

All Change at The Royal Oak

Even though Alton is just a small village it has several pubs.  Yippee!!!

The Royal Oak is the nearest pub to us, it's just down the road.  At the end of last year Paul and Sheilagh who have run The Royal Oak for many years decided to take a well earned retirement.
The pub closed down for a few weeks and after a make over re-opened with Darren and Charlotte at the helm.  A log burner has been installed giving the pub a real cosy feel and the colour scheme of  grey with lime green looks lovely!  We have been down the road to sample a drink (or two!) and have had a meal that we thoroughly enjoyed.  We wish Darren, Charlotte and their family luck with their new venture and hope Paul and Sheilagh have more time to relax now.

Of course The Royal Oak is just one choice.  You might decided to walk a full two or three minutes to The Bulls Head or White Hart.  If you fancy stretching your legs it will take you a ten minute stroll to reach The Blacksmiths Arms.

Rumour has it that The Bridge House is being prepared for re-opening but village gossip hasn't provided any details so far.  Will keep you posted!
