Look What We Saw on Our Lunch Break!

Today we'd had a really busy morning at our B&B so when lunchtime arrived we were ready to take a break. For a change of scene we decided to drive to our local chippy for a lunchtime treat. To get to the chip shop we drove through a few local country lanes and just look at what we saw along the way!

We stopped to speak to the farmer who was tending the donkeys. He told us that that baby donkey had been born just last night.

As you'll know if you read our blog we just love lambs. As we passed number 10 we couldn't resist getting a snap of him as he looked so cute.

What a lovely lunch break we had! The chips weren't bad either!

Our visit to Buxton

The old spa town of Buxton in Derbyshire is a pleasure to visit, we can highly recommend it! We had a rare afternoon off recently and decided to drive to Buxton as we hadn't been there for quite a while. The car journey was around an hour from Alton. We had a steady drive so that we could make the most of the pretty countryside we drove through.

We mooched around the shops and then took a stroll into the Pavillion Gardens as seen below.

We were even lucky enough to find a sunny spot in the gardens to enjoy an ice cream!

The town has some interesting shops and truly beautiful buildings. There are plenty of places to get a light snack, lunch or even afternoon tea!

The Buxton Wells Dressing Festival takes place from 5 - 16 July 2012. For more details see http://www.buxtonwelldressing.co.uk/ .

Buxton even has it's own Opera House hosting a variety of theatre, music and comedy throughout the year see their site http://www.buxtonoperahouse.org/ for details of what's on. The Opera House is fabulous inside and out, attending a performance there is a real treat.

There are many beautiful locations to visit that are a short distance away from our B&B Buxton is just 0ne of them!

Lovely Lambs at Easter Time

Every season has something spectacular to offer BUT there's nothing quite like seeing tiny lambs as Spring turns to early Summer. To us watching lambs come out into the fields near our B&B is simply wonderful!

This week ewes and their lambs were let out onto the hillside opposite our orchard. It was a joy for us to watch the lambs skipping about. Here they are - they seemed to be really enjoying themselves!

HAPPY EASTER!

A hazy afternoon at Blithfield Reservoir

Last week the weather in Alton was wonderfully warm and sunny! We took a couple of hours off to enjoy the sunshine and went for a ride out to Blithfield Reservoir. Located in the countryside between the towns of Uttoxeter and Rugely the reservoir is a lovely place to relax.

Here a a few photo's that we took. As you can see the mixture of sunshine and water made for a very hazy (I did mean hazy not lazy!) afternoon.

MALT TIP: If you plan to visit the reservoir choose a day when the weather is pleasant.

Good weather = an ice cream van at Blithfield!

Parking at the reservoir is free. There are walks to enjoy and plenty of wildlife to watch. Or you can just park up your vehicle and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Take a look at http://www.blithfield.com/walks/facilities.asp for more information.

Blithfield Reservoir is approximately 30 minutes by car from The Malthouse. If your planning to come and stay at our B&B why not extend your trip? There are a wide varitey of things to do and places to visit near to us.
